INFINITE‘s Woohyun, in a candid interview, delved into the profound narrative behind his first solo album, ‘WHITREE.’ Confronting a rare cancer diagnosis earlier this year, Woohyun faced a period of introspection and healing. “I was sick earlier this year… I wondered if I should quit everything and take a break,” he shared. Despite these challenges, he emerged with a newfound maturity and a stronger musical and mental outlook. “I recovered and am back passionately singing and dancing… I want to give courage to others,” Woohyun expressed.
Revealing his personal battle with GIST, Woohyun discussed his 10-hour surgery and the subsequent recovery, a fact unknown to fans during INFINITE’s 13th-anniversary celebrations. Despite the major surgery, his eagerness to reunite with fans accelerated his recovery. “Originally, I was planning to release a single album in the summer… The first people I wanted to see while I was sick were my fans,” he remarked, emphasizing his commitment to his audience.
Woohyun’s journey through adversity has deeply influenced his music. His involvement in his album ‘WHITREE,’ which includes 11 songs like “Baby Baby,” reflects his emotional depth and artistic sincerity. “Even in my previous self-composed songs, I put a lot of my feelings, but this time, I wrote about what I really wanted to tell,” he said.
The album’s track “Paradise” is strategically placed for concert sing-alongs, demonstrating Woohyun’s thoughtful connection with his fans. His attachment to the track “I Will Be Alright” symbolizes his overcoming of personal challenges.
As Woohyun prepares for his ‘Tree Day 3 – WHITREE’ concert at Jamsil Student Gymnasium, he hopes the album serves as a beacon of strength and joy. “If you have a hard time, let’s overcome it together and live healthily and happily for a long time,” he concludes, offering a message of solidarity and hope.
