The trans community is jumping for joy after Disney’s Baymax! featured a trans masc person in a scene about buying period products.

Baymax!, a new animated series based on the character from Big Hero 6, has been applauded for its LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

The scene in question sees the inflatable healthcare robot Baymax at a local shop looking for the right period products.

After asking another customer, several people overhear the conversation and start making their own recommendations.

One of the customers that helps Baymax appears to be a trans masc person wearing a trans flag top.

Naturally, the community launched into adoration mode after a clip was posted to social media.

“Baymax said trans rights and I think that’s very much in character,” tweeted one user, while another said: “The trans community is now ride or die for Baymax, our inflatable ally.”

“Baymax is literally a robotic nurse. IT’S HIS JOB TO FULFILL SOMEONE’S MEDICAL NEEDS.”

The Disney+ series, which released six episodes on Wednesday (29 June), has won praise for both its style and its inclusivity.

The period product scene takes place in episode three, in which middle-school student Sofia faces issues surrounding starting her period with the support of Baymax by her side.

Another scene, which takes place in the same episode, sees Baymax consoling Sofia after she finds it hard to come to terms with the changes she’s experiencing.

Of course, the snippet of trans inclusion angered the usual crowd of ‘anti-woke’ pundits who believe a scene where someone simply recommends purchasing a period product is “all part of Disney’s plan to re-engineer the discourse around kids and sexuality”.

Thankfully, those bigots have been met with a sea of supporters pointing out that the show is about a robot put on earth “for one thing and one thing only: To help and to heal”.

“So if someone needs help with their f***ing periods, Baymax is going to find solutions to that problem,” said one Twitter user.

Another added: “Baymax is literally a robotic nurse. IT’S HIS JOB TO FULFILL SOMEONE’S MEDICAL NEEDS!”

Baymax! also includes an adorable scene in which two guys struggle to ask one another out on a date. With the help of Baymax’s lovably blunt observations, they manage to pull it off.

The series is a welcome piece of LGBTQ-inclusive content for Disney, which has faced much criticism for failing to meaningfully represent the community.

Disney was also criticised by fans and staff alike for its refusal to stand against Florida’s Don’t Say Gay law. Disney holds huge political sway in Florida.

During the row, a group of anonymous employees claimed Disney routinely cut LGBTQ+ content from its films. This apparently included a same-sex kiss in Pixar’s Lightyear, which was later restored.

Eventually Disney backtracked on Don’t Say Gay and vowed to fight the law, putting it in direct conflict with Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

Baymax! is streaming on Disney+.
