The Creative Arts Emmys honour the best of the last year’s reality shows and comedy specials, and also hands out awards for animation, visual effects, production design and stunts.

The two-night event, which began on Saturday at the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater, saw the fab five take home yet another Emmy when Queer Eye won the award for Outstanding Structured Reality Program category for the fifth year in a row.

However Queer Eye was beaten in the Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program category by Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrls, which follows Lizzo searching for new members of her backup dance troupe the Big Grrrls.

Thankfully, Adele was able to claim victory over disgraced comedian Dave Chappelle in the Outstanding Variety Special category, with her One Night Only special beating Chappelle’s The Closer, which was riddled with anti-trans “jokes”.

Adele’s One Night Only was also honoured four more times, winning the awards for lighting design, directing, technical direction and sound mixing.

RuPaul took home the hosting award for RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the show was also handed the award for Outstanding Production Design.

Accepting his seventh Emmy for the show, RuPaul told the audience: “You guys are so sweet.

“I’ve got to tell you, I love, love, love television and it is a privilege to be on television and do this thing I’ve loved my whole life.”

The Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program was taken home by two drag reality shows – the ballroom competition show Legendary, and We’re Here, which stars Drag Race icons Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara and Shangela.

The Creative Arts Emmys continues for a second night on Sunday (4 September).
