BTS’s RM, the acclaimed leader of the global sensation BTS, has generously donated 100 million KRW (approximately 73,628 USD) to the Korean Society of Legal Medicine. This significant contribution underscores his commitment to supporting the training and development of forensic experts in South Korea.
On September 27, the Korean Society of Legal Medicine announced RM’s donation, which was facilitated through his acquaintance with Dr. Lee Ho. RM met Dr. Lee, a renowned forensic expert and professor at Chonbuk National University, during an episode of the tvN variety show ‘The Mysterious Dictionary of Useless Miscellaneous Human Knowledge.’
RM said, “I heard that the process of becoming a forensic expert is extremely difficult,” and added, “I empathize with the importance of legal medicine and sincerely respect those who are walking the path of a forensic expert out of a sense of mission. I hope to contribute even a little to the cultivation and support of forensic experts and the development of the Korean Society of Legal Medicine.”
South Korea currently faces a shortage of forensic experts, with only around 60 professionals actively practicing in the field. The situation is further exacerbated by the dwindling interest among medical professionals in pursuing a specialization in forensics, attracting merely 2 to 3 individuals annually. In this context, RM’s financial support is not only timely but is also anticipated to make a significant and positive difference in addressing this gap.
The funds donated by RM will be allocated for various crucial initiatives. These include the development of talent in the forensic field, supporting academic research related to legal medicine, and enhancing the overall legal medicine system in the country. In recognition of RM’s generous support, the Korean Society of Legal Medicine intends to honor him with a plaque of appreciation and bestow upon him an honorary membership.
Through this donation, RM is investing in the future of forensic science in South Korea, providing much-needed support to nurture and grow the next generation of experts in this vital field. This initiative reflects his broader commitment to social responsibility and making a positive impact in the community.
